Research In Thriller/Horror movie: Paranormal Activity

In Paranormal Activity trailer, the viewer gets the chance to capture a little glimpse of the movie to see what it is about, who the main characters are and what the story line possibly could be. In this 1 minute 45 seconds trailer the audience gets to the see the audience in the actual cinema watching this movie on the big screen and clips from the actual movie. In actual short clips from the movie show that there is a ghost in the house where these two people are living and weird activities are taken place involving ghosts which humans are not able to see, the viewer also gets the chance to see reactions of the audience in the cinema, proving that this is a horrifying movie to watch and you will also end up gritting your teeth and will be at the edge of your seat.

The audience is introduced to two characters which are couples living on their own in a house. These characters are constructed very casually like a normal couple who do exactly what everyone else do from day to day, the audience is positioned in their point of view showing their experience and letting the audience experience it with them. But at the beginning the audience are placed in two different shoes, first the males shoes because he thinks that there is nothing dodgy going on and thinks his girlfriend is being weird, the female characters shoes who thinks that there is something going on and weird activities are taken place during the night around the house which they arte unable to figure out.

In this sequence the audience gets to see that this film has been set around a house, but has been pin pointed in certain rooms certain areas of the house to reveal the weird activities, which are taking place during the night. The camera shots used in this sequence are first a medium shot of the female who is the first main character which the audience gets to see then a cut to the male character, second shot used is a tracking shot/point of view shot showing the male character placing the camera on his tripod, then a cut has been used to show the view from the camera on the tripod showing the room, here al long shot has been shot revealing the setting of this scene. Another shot used is point of view shot looking at the house before the characters go to bed and then when they wake up during the night, to see that there are footsteps on the floor, after that a close upshot reveals the back of one the characters to show a massive bruise on their back.

The editing used are fast cuts, fades, fast wipes, long take. All these editing techniques put together add more of an effect of spookiness and horror for the audience to experience and make them go and watch the film to see what the rest of the film has packed for them. Another technique, which adds more detail and realism to the trailer, is the sound, in this trailer the sound of footsteps also known as ambient sound has been amplified, this shows how quiet the place is and that you are able to hear the smallest sound. An eerie sound like winds blowing is used diegetic sound this is a signature sound for horror movies which makes the audience expect something scary is about to happen. A sound bridge has been used to carry the non-diegetic eerie, scary sound going on as soon as something scary or weird is shown which will make the audience move, the tempo of the sound increases and the pitch parallel gets higher.

Throughout this trailer no credits have been shown but writing has appeared explaining how this film is the scariest movie made and horrifying then the name of the actual movie, the letterings are white with a black background and are quite large so it is readable also they are placed in the middle of the screen.
